Macomb County Announces New Vaccination Site

Mt. Clemens, MI - The Macomb County Health Department has announced a new partnership with the City of Sterling Heights that will create a new community-based COVID-19 vaccination site.

The new vaccination site will be at the Sterling Heights Senior Center, located at 40200 Utica Rd, Sterling Heights, MI 48313, and will be staffed by trained health professionals from the Sterling Heights Fire Department, with transportation services provided by SMART. The new site is currently dedicated to vaccinating Macomb County residents and workers aged 60 years and older but can easily transition to serving other eligible populations throughout the county.

The launch of the new vaccination site in Sterling Heights marks the Health Department’s second community-based vaccination site; the first community-based site was launched on February 12 in collaboration with SMART and Richmond-Lenox EMS. In addition to the two community-based sites, the Health Department also operates a large-scale vaccination site at the Verkuilen Building in Clinton Township.

“Seniors continue to be one of the most vulnerable groups, and it is partnerships like this that will ensure we can provide safe and innovative access to vaccines,” said County Executive Mark Hackel. “We are committed to serving senior citizens across Macomb County.”

“City council and city management have a responsibility to make sure the needs of our residents are being met. The current public health crisis has certainly brought that responsibility front and center, and we take it very seriously,” said Sterling Heights Mayor Michael Taylor. “As larger groups of residents become eligible for vaccination and more doses become available, we need to be immediately prepared to conduct mass vaccinations. We’re excited to work with Macomb County to be able to provide residents of the state’s fourth largest city a convenient and accessible location to get their vaccination, and it’s our hope this center will help increase the efficiency with which we get our residents protected, stop the spread of COVID in our community and get back to a semblance of normalcy.”

Appointments are required; the site is not open to walk-ups. To make an appointment, eligible residents and workers can call the SMART Macomb Vaccine Line at 586-421-6579; or email This email address is being protected from spambots. Registrants will be added to the SMART wait list, and Macomb County staff will call eligible responders to schedule appointments as they become available. Eligible seniors who call SMART will have an opportunity to be vaccinated in Richmond or Sterling Heights. County staff will do their best to schedule appointments that work best for each individual.

Macomb County is scheduling appointments for the new vaccination site in Sterling Heights beginning the week of March 1. SMART will provide transportation for those that request assistance.
