Detroit FD Presents Arson Reward Checks

Metro Detroit Community NewsDetroit, MI - The Detroit Fire Department presented two $2,500 arson reward checks on Thursday, June 18, at 10:30 a.m. at Fire Department Headquarters, located at 250 W. Larned.   The information from these two witnesses was critical in the arrest of an arsonist.

Tipsters could be eligible for a reward up to $5,000 for providing information leading to the arrest and/or conviction of an arsonist. The cash reward program is part of a citywide effort to fight arson in Detroit and is sponsored by the Michigan Arson Prevention Committee.

“We are committed to reducing arson incidents," said Chief Gery Victor of the Detroit Fire Department’s Arson Section.  "I encourage all residents to take an active role in helping prevent arson fires by monitoring any suspicious people and vehicles to minimize loss of life and property."

Citizens willing to make a difference can provide information (anonymous if requested) on arson crimes by calling 1-800-44-ARSON (1-800-442-7766). Tips are forwarded to the appropriate police or fire agency for follow up.  Tipsters may also report arson crimes to the Detroit Fire Department’s Arson Section at 313.596.2940.
