I-96 To Close In Wayne County Starting Saturday

Detroit, MI - Weather permitting, the full closure of I-96 between Newburgh and Telegraph roads is on schedule to begin Saturday, April 5.

Closing this stretch of I-96 in Livonia and Redford Township will allow crews to rebuild 7 miles of pavement, repair 37 overpasses, and upgrade freeway utilities and lighting in one construction season. The freeway is scheduled to reopen in October.

Detours will be posted and several alternate routes are available. Motorists are advised to start getting familiar with alternative routes this week in advance of all lanes closing early Saturday morning. In addition, crews will close a single lane on each service drive on Thursday and begin closing ramps after 7 p.m. Friday in advance of the freeway closure.
