Lansing, MI - Michigan's freezing and thawing weather cycles can produce potholes during this time of year. The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has a toll-free number to invite motorists to report potholes they observe on state roads.
"The pothole hotline is an easy way for residents to let us know about potholes that need to be repaired on state roads," said State Transportation Director Kirk T. Steudle. "We are committed to fixing potholes as quickly as possible in order to ensure a smoother ride for everyone who uses roads maintained by MDOT, and we appreciate the public's help in letting us know about potholes they may spot." To report a pothole, call 888-296-4546, around-the-clock, seven days a week, or access the "Report Potholes" link on the MDOT Web site at www.michigan.gov/mdot. When reporting a pothole location, residents are asked to include the route name (M, U.S. or I designation), county, nearest community, and the closest cross street or interchange. Potholes on non-state roads should be reported to local road commissions since MDOT does not have jurisdiction over roads that are not part of the state system. Information about how potholes are formed is available on the MDOT Web site at www.michigan.gov/mdot/0,1607,7-151-9615_30883---,00.html. |
