Lansing, MI - The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will suspend work and reopen lanes on several major state highways, including US-12 west of US-127, I-94 Business Loop in Jackson, M-50 near Tecumseh, and US-223 for the first NASCAR Nextel Cup race of the season at Michigan International Speedway (MIS), the weekend of June 17.
"We recognize the huge economic impact race weekend at MIS has on our state," said MDOT Jackson Transportation Service Center Manager Dee Parker. "By suspending construction and reopening as many lanes as possible, we strive to make travel to and from MIS easier and safer for race fans." As a way to help visitors navigate around MIS, MDOT has launched a new MIS race day travel page on the Web. The site will supply information for motorists and race fans regarding statewide construction projects, the new outbound traffic pattern, maps, and links to both WJR (AM 760) and the MIS Web site. The site is located on MDOT's home page at www.michigan.gov/mdot under "Roads and Travel." MDOT cautions that some construction projects will remain active over race weekend and motorists need to plan accordingly when traveling. Several projects that still will have lane restrictions include US-12 in the city of Saline, and US-23 in Livingston and Monroe counties. |
