Detroit, MI - The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) today announced a revision to the bridge rehabilitation associated with the resurfacing of US-24 (Telegraph Road) in Wayne County. This year's resurfacing, between Cherry Hill Road in Dearborn and Joy Road in Detroit, includes bridge repairs to seven structures between Michigan Avenue and Hines Drive.
"This has become a safety issue," said Metro Region Engineer Greg Johnson. "We need to ensure that once this project is completed, Telegraph Road will be able to withstand load requirements that are necessary on a state trunkline. A full beam replacement on these bridges makes certain that the motoring public receives the proper return on our investment." The new schedule includes the completion of the resurfacing work. Because of the replacement of the southbound bridge beams at Hines Drive, both directions of Telegraph Road now share the northbound lanes, with two lanes open in each direction. That configuration is expected to remain in place through mid-December. The replacement of the northbound bridges will take place in 2008. |
