Self-Service Plate Renewal Now Available In Allen Park Print E-mail
Tuesday, 24 April 2007
Metro Detroit Government NewsAllen Park, MI - Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land announced that visitors to the Frank J. Lada Allen Park Community Center now have the convenience of renewing license plate tabs on a Self-Service Station.

The new Self-Service Station allows customers to scan their license plate renewal form, pay with a credit or debit card, and leave with their tabs in hand.  The station is among the first to be installed outside of a Secretary of State branch office.  Land earlier announced opening tab-renewal stations at government centers as part of her Customer Service Initiative.

“Excellent customer service today means convenient, flexible access to state government services,” Land said.  “Self-Service Stations help us achieve that by offering customers another option to renew their vehicle registrations quickly, conveniently and outside of a branch office.”

Besides the Self-Service Stations now operating at more than two dozen branch offices, stations have been installed at government centers in the city of Wayne and St. Joseph County.

Land also thanked state Sen. Ray Basham, whose district includes Allen Park and the city of Wayne, for working with the department to find locations for the Self-Service Stations.

The community center, located at 15800 White St., is open from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

“Eighth District residents now have two options to renew their tabs outside of a branch office with the installation of the Allen Park Self-Service Station,” Basham said.  “I’m pleased to be able to help Wayne County residents get access to innovative customer-service solutions like this one that’s as close as the city of Wayne’s City Hall or Allen Park’s community center.”

The stations have proved popular with customers, logging about 100,000 transactions totaling more than $10 million since their start in April 2005.
In addition to Self-Service Stations and branch offices, customers can renew tabs by Internet, phone and mail.

Other components of Land’s Customer Service Initiative include a call for more SUPER!Centers and PLUS offices, which feature expanded hours and services, as well as expanding the services available online so customers can skip the trip to a branch office entirely.  Land also has heightened customer convenience by adding cash machines to 30 branch offices as part of a pilot program.
