Metro Detroit Government NewsDetroit, MI - The Wayne County Commission passed a unanimous resolution November 18th, 2008 supporting Congressman John Dingell and his continuation as chairman of the House Energy & Commerce Committee.

Commissioners Joseph Palamara (D-Grosse Ile) and Gary Woronchak (D-Dearborn) introduced the resolution.

Congressman Henry Waxman (D-California) has announced that he is challenging Dingell for the chairmanship post in the new Congress.

“John Dingell has been one of the most powerful and effective leaders in Washington,” said Commissioner Palamara. “He has written and influenced thousands of bills that have greatly benefited Wayne County and the nation. There is no reason to make this change, especially with our economy in such turmoil,” Palamara added.

“Congressman Dingell has been a strong leader of this committee,” said Commissioner Woronchak. “He has promoted access to quality and affordable health care, helped reduce carbon emissions and global warming, and protected consumers while working to assure a strong and healthy economy.”
