Macomb County Weatherization Program For Qualifying Residents Print E-mail

Metro Detroit Government NewsMt. Clemens, MI - Qualifying Macomb County residents can reap big savings in heating costs by making their houses more energy efficient with help from the Home Weatherization Program.

The program offered by the Macomb County Community Service Agency (MCCSA) has improved the energy efficiency of more than 5,000 homes over the past 30 years, saving clients an average of $300 a year. This free assistance is available to county residents meeting income eligibility requirements.

Although the Weatherization Program provides year around benefits, Gov. Jennifer Granholm declared Oct. 30 as Weatherization Day in Michigan. For eligibility requirements and other details, call MCCSA’s Home Preservation/Energy group at 586-469-6329 or visit www.macombcountymi.gov/mccsa/wx.htm.

MCCSA technicians use computerized energy audits and advanced diagnostics to determine the most cost-effective measures for each home and assess health and safety conditions.

Technicians then may install caulk or weather-stripping; clean, repair or replace the furnace; seal ducts and balance airflow; reduce heat loss through windows and doors; check for carbon monoxide leaks, and provide other energy conservation tips.
