MI Treasury Posts Service And Income Tax Information Print E-mail

Michigan Government NewsLansing, MI - The Department of Treasury has posted information on the extension of Michigan’s Use Tax to select services and the increase in the state’s individual income tax rate on its Web site.

The information regarding the Use Tax includes a list of the services that will be subject to the tax, effective December 1, 2007, as well as a link to descriptions and definitions of each service based on the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS). The Department of Treasury is currently developing additional information about the services that will be subject to the 6 percent tax. This information will be distributed publicly and posted on the Web site, once complete.

Treasury’s Web site also includes updated information on the income tax rate increase that took effect October 1, 2007. Information includes new income tax withholding tables and supplemental withholding guide instructions for the final three months of 2007. In addition to posting this important information on line, Treasury will be mailing supplemental withholding guides and tables to registered taxpayers. Those who make quarterly estimated income tax payments will also be contacted by the department to ensure they are aware of the new income tax rate. 

Withholding taxpayers should note they will be mailed a new 2008 Income Tax Withholding Guide which will contain updated withholding tables for the 2008 calendar year.

*Michigan Business Tax Webinar*
As part of Treasury’s continuing effort to educate the business community about the new Michigan Business Tax (MBT), the department is hosting a webinar at2 p.m. on Thursday, October 11, 2007.  The webinar is free of charge although space is limited.

During the “live” webinar, Treasury staff will offer a presentation on the MBT and participants will be able to submit questions online. To participate, youmust register at www.michigan.gov/mbt.  If you are unable to participate in the live Webinar, the presentation will be available on the MBT Web site beginning October 12.
