Bus Driver Charged With Negligent Homicide Print E-mail

Metro Detroit Crime & Police NewsDetroit, MI - Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has charged Tammie R. Jett, 61 of Detroit with Negligent Homicide in connection with the death of Audrey Locke, 27 of Detroit.

Negligent Homicide carries a maximum penalty of up to two years and a fine of $2,000. Upon conviction the defendant can be ordered to reimburse the government for emergency response and expenses for prosecution, as well as revocation of driver’s license.

On Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at approximately 12:00 p.m. Audrey Locke, 27 of Detroit and her 57 year-old mother were walking on Lahser and Grand River when a Detroit Department of Transportation bus driven by Ms. Jett made a left turn, heading south on Lahser and hit both women in the pedestrian crosswalk. Ms. Locke was pronounced dead at the scene. Her mother was taken to a local hospital and treated for her injuries.

Ms. Jett was arraigned at 36th District Court, 421 Madison Avenue, Detroit, Michigan.
