Metro Detroit Community NewsDetroit, MI - Wayne County Commissioner Philip Cavanagh (D-Redford Township) is seeking volunteers to help out on his “2007 Make A Senior Smile Day” event.

The event will be held Saturday, November 3, and is intended to help out needy senior citizens in Dearborn Heights, Redford Township and Garden City with yard work  chores.

“There are many senior citizens who are unable to get their leaves raked and yards cleaned up for winter,” said Commissioner  Cavanagh.  “Our goal is to service 25 households that day, but the key is to get enough volunteers so that we can make that happen.  The phone keeps ringing with calls from seniors who need help, but need more volunteers to be able to accommodate everyone in need.”

Individuals are asked to volunteer that morning from 9 a.m. to around 12 noon.  Volunteers will receive coffee and donuts, a t-shirt and a free lunch.  All necessary equipment (rakes, yard waste bags, etc.,) will be provided.

For more information, please call Celeste Lehman in Commissioner Cavanagh’s office at 313-224-0920.
