Senior Outreach Day Scheduled For Warren Print E-mail
Wednesday, 29 October 2008

Metro Detroit Community NewsMt. Clemens, MI - The Macomb County Senior Citizen Services Department and County Commissioner Jon Switalski will coordinate a Senior Outreach Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, in Warren.

Flu and pneumonia vaccines, blood pressure testing, vision and cholesterol screening and vital information of interest to senior citizens will be available. The clinic will be held at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 30003 Ryan Road, Warren.

The Macomb County Health Department will provide flu vaccinations to all adults and to children who are at least 6 months old. Pneumonia vaccine also will be available to people at least 65 years old or those with special health concerns.

A $15 charge for each vaccination is payable with cash or check. Debit and credit cards are not accepted. The fee also may be billed to Medicare Part B or Medicaid for residents enrolled in those programs. Medicare or Medicaid billing requires recipients to show their program ID card and a valid driver’s license or other form of photo identification. HAP Medicare clients must pay the fee or obtain the vaccine at their in-network medical provider.

Free prescription discount cards and 9-1-1 cell phones also will be available to senior citizens. Representatives from Senior Citizen Services and other agencies will have information about more programs and services.

Senior citizens also can help the environment by bringing unneeded or expired non-narcotic medication for proper disposal by the health department’s Environmental Health Division. Medication should not be flushed down the toilet because it ends up in wastewater treatment plants that are not equipped to remove drugs. The drugs can contaminate drinking water. Bring the drugs in a non-descript container with no identifying information such as a plastic bag.
For further details about the outreach program, contact Cathy Wilson at 586-469-6307.

The Macomb County Department of Senior Citizen Services is sponsored by the Macomb County Board of Commissioners and receives county funds for all services. Funding for the department also comes from the Area Agency on Aging 1-B, the Office of Services to the Aging, state grants and the Older Americans Act.
