Senior Outreach Day Scheduled For Oct. 24 In Mt. Clemens Print E-mail

Metro Detroit Community NewsMt. Clemens, MI - The Macomb County Department of Senior Citizen Services with the support of County Commissioner Ed Bruley will coordinate a Senior Outreach Day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, in Mount Clemens.

Flu and pneumonia vaccines, health screening and vital information of interest to senior citizens will be offered at this clinic. The clinic will be held at the Mount Clemens Library 150 Cass Avenue.

The Visiting Nurse Association of Southeast Michigan will provide flu vaccines at this clinic to adults and children age 9 and older.

The vaccine is free to seniors who have Medicare Part B insurance. Seniors should bring their Medicare card, driver’s license or Michigan identification card, and supplemental health insurance card. A $25 fee for flu vaccine and a $40 fee for pneumonia vaccine apply to anyone who does not have Medicare Part B. The Visiting Nurse Association will accept cash, check, Care Choices or Health Alliance Plan (HAP) insurances.

A representative from the Macomb County Health Department’s Environmental Health Division will be on hand to dispose of unwanted medication. Pills must be removed from bottles and placed in unmarked containers such as a clear plastic bag. Only non-narcotic medications will be accepted.

A passport fair will be held at this site by appointment. Applicants must bring two 2-by-2-inch photos, qualifying forms of identification and pay the processing fees.  Total fees for passports are $97, for adults and $82 for children under 16. Applicants must appear in person and bring two of the following: a birth certificate with official raised seal; a current driver’s license; a state ID card or a naturalization certificate.  Passports take about three months to process.  An appointment is required. The following free services also will be offered to seniors at this site: Macomb County Discount Cards, 9-1-1 cell phones, blood pressure, cholesterol, and vision screening.  Presentations on health issues will be held each hour.
