Metro Detroit Community NewsDetroit, MI - Mayor Kwame M. Kilpatrick’s Next Detroit Neighborhood Initiative (NDNI), in collaboration with Arise Detroit!, will participate in  “Neighborhoods Day” this Saturday by hosting neighborhood celebrations in all six of its neighborhoods - 7 Mile/Livernois, East English Village, Grand River/Greenfield, Osborn, North End, and Brightmoor.

Residents within each of the Next Detroit neighborhoods are encouraged to come out and fellowship with neighbors and learn about available programs and resources.  Children’s activities, food, fun, refreshments, and giveaways will be provided.  The times and locations for each event are as follows:

--Grand River/Greenfield - Greater Marion Chapel (15120 Grand River near Coyle) from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

--Osborn - Bessey Playfield (Hoover St. behind Brenda Scott School) from 12:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

--North End - Bennett Park (E. Bethune between Brush and Beaubien) from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m.

--Brightmoor - Leland Baptist Church (22350 Fenkell) from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

--7 Mile/Livernois - 8020 W. McNichols (next to Grandfather’s Place restaurant) at Woodingham from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

--East English Village - Waveney Street (between E. Outer Drive and Yorkshire Street) from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m.

In an effort to build strong, safe neighborhoods in the city of Detroit, NDNI events always take the opportunity to educate citizens on grant programs, city services, organizing block clubs and CB patrols, and crime reporting.

“Engagement at the neighborhood level is critical for creating, expanding, and maintaining economic opportunity within the city of Detroit,” said Mayor Kilpatrick.  “By coordinating that engagement, NDNI will reinforce, revitalize and redevelop neighborhoods using various economic and community development strategies. The overarching goal of NDNI is to change the face of Detroit, one neighborhood at a time by linking city services and private resources to community priorities.”
