Metro Detroit Community NewsMt. Clemens, MI - Macomb County Community Services Agency (MCCSA) needs volunteers to deliver emergency food boxes on Saturday, March 15, to homebound senior citizens who receive Meals on Wheels.

The boxes have a supply of non-perishable food to be used if severe weather or other emergency prevents normal Meals on Wheels deliveries.

Severe weather caused more meal delivery cancellations than usual this winter. MCCSA's Senior Nutrition Program is providing these additional emergency food boxes, which are normally delivered twice a year, to prepare Meals on Wheels recipients for any additional cancellations.

Boxes will be picked up from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the MCCSA warehouse near M-59 and Groesbeck in Clinton Township. Routes are available in all communities in the county. Volunteers are asked to deliver 12-16 boxes.

Meals on Wheels needs volunteers to register to deliver the emergency boxes by Friday, Feb. 29. People interested in volunteering may call the MCCSA Senior Nutrition Program at 586-469-5228 or sign up online at www.macombcountymi.gov/mccsa.
