Detroit Yard Waste Collection Begins May 1st Print E-mail
Thursday, 05 April 2007
Metro Detroit Community NewsDetroit, MI - The Detroit Department of Public Works (DPW) officials issued a reminder to residents that the City will begin collecting yard waste in May. In the meantime, residents should take their yard waste (leaves, grass clippings, and twigs) to one of six drop-off locations.

“Implementing a yard waste collection strategy last year as part of our solid waste management plan was successful,” said Cathy Square, DPW Director. “We will continue the program again on May 1, but anyone that puts it out before then will get a blight ticket and have to pay a fine.”

Until the May collection begins, residents can drop off yard waste at any of the drop-off locations open to Detroit residents only. The locations are open Tuesday - Saturday from 8:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m. (April - October).

Davison Yard - 8221 West Davison
Southfield Yard - 12255 Southfield Service Dr. (Open Mondays as well)
5840 Anthon between Cavalry and Campbell
5580 Concord at East Grand Boulevard
State Fair Yard - 19715 John R
Waste Management Transfer Station - 1550 Harper, enter on Ferry Street

All yard waste must be placed on the curb at least six feet from the Courville container in biodegradable paper bags or a personal garbage can. DPW will not collect yard waste in plastic bags. Residents who set out yard waste more than 24 hours before their scheduled pick-up will be subject to a fine.

The yard waste collection program will last through the first week of December (weather permitting).
