Lansing, MI - The Mackinac Bridge Authority (MBA) announced the 50th Annual Bridge Walk will begin at 7 a.m. this Labor Day, Sept. 3.
MBA officials expect upwards of 50,000 people will come to the Straits area for the milestone walk event. Walkers are encouraged to check out event details online at www.mackinacbridge.org. Prior to the walk, Gov. Granholm will lead a select group of 300 runners across the bridge in conjunction with the Governor's Council on Physical Fitness (GCPF). The early-morning GCPF event will take place as a way to promote the importance of exercise and physical fitness for people of all ages. Additionally, more than 50 swimmers will attempt to cross the Straits one-by-one beginning at 6:30 a.m. Ultra-marathon athlete and Great Lakes swimmer Jim Dreyer organized the unique and inspiring swim as a fundraiser for Mentor Michigan, an organization geared toward supporting and enhancing mentoring programs for Michigan's youth. |
