DWDD Offering Dislocated Worker Scholarships Print E-mail
Wednesday, 28 March 2007
Metro Detroit Business NewsDetroit, MI - In this difficult Michigan economy, the City of Detroit Workforce Development Department (DWDD) is taking special steps to meet the needs of dislocated workers.  DWDD is offering dislocated workers scholarships for training in emerging or high growth industry sectors.

Individuals must go to any of DWDD's one stop centers to be determined eligible before enrollment into any training.

Individuals interested in the training must be enrolled in an allowable institution, preferably a community college or a university, before June 30, 2007.   Dislocated workers are individuals who have been laid off, downsized, or unemployed as a result of their companies reducing their workforces and transitioning from declining industries. Since funding is limited, factors, at a minimum, must include:

Dislocated workers entering training leading to employment in a high growth industry or sector,

Dislocated workers entering training leading to employment in an emerging industry or sector,

Dislocated workers who were dislocated from employment in a declining industry or sector,

Dislocated workers entering training through the community college system,

Dislocated workers entering training through a university that functions as a community college in a local area,

Dislocated workers should enter accelerated training programs, as available.
