Metro Detroit Arts & Entertainment NewsRoyal Oak, MI – Starting Saturday, March 31, through the end of October, the Detroit Zoo will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. seven days a week, with extended hours from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesdays during July and August.

The Detroit Zoo’s annual warm-weather events include:

• Bunnyville, April 7 – The season springs into action with the Zoo’s annual Easter celebration, featuring live musical entertainment, children’s crafts, photos with the Easter Bunny and treats for the entire family.

• Earth Day, April 21 – The Zoo celebrates its commitment to conservation with its annual Earth Day festivities, including earth-friendly crafts, costumed characters, entertainment and animal enrichment activities.

• Meet Your Best Friend at the Zoo, May 5-6 – The world’s largest and most successful offsite pet adoption program allows visitors to meet hundreds of furry friends that need a loving home.

• Sunset at the Zoo, June 15 – The summer charity season shifts into high gear with the wildest party of the year.  This annual Zoo fundraiser features a strolling supper by the area’s finest restaurants, zoo-themed martinis, live music, dancing, and live and silent auctions.

• Wild Summer Nights, July 11 through August 29 – On Wednesday evenings in July and August, visitors can relax to the sound of live bands featuring a variety of music.  Concerts are held from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. in the Main Picnic Grove.

The Detroit Zoological Society is a non-profit organization that operates the Detroit Zoo and Belle Isle Nature Zoo.  Situated on 125 acres of naturalistic exhibits, the Detroit Zoo is located at the intersection of Ten Mile Road and Woodward Avenue, just off I-696, in Royal Oak.  The Detroit Zoo is open daily 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. April through October – with extended hours until 8:00 p.m. Wednesdays during July and August – and 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. November through March.  Admission is $11.00 for adults 13 to 61, $9.00 for senior citizens 62 and older, and $7.00 for children ages 2 to 12; children under 2 are free.  For more information, call (248) 541-5717 or visit www.detroitzoo.org.  The Belle Isle Nature Zoo is open daily 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. April through October and 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. November through March, and provides educational programming with interpretive staff support from the Huron-Clinton Metroparks.  For more information, call (313) 852-4056.
